Objectives

To conduct research and development in Nuclear Reactor Operation, Utilization and Analysis, provide training for Nuclear Reactor Operators in basic nuclear physics and nuclear engineering.

Research Areas:

1. Experimental nuclear physics
2. Characterization of the Nigeria Research Reactor – 1 (NIRR-1);
3. Determination of elemental composition of various matrices using NAA;
4. Computations in Reactor Analysis and Reactor Design
5. Determination of Hydrogen contents of various matrices using the Reactor Startup equipment and other improvised experimental set-up.
6. Nuclear Data Determination by theoretical and experimental methods
7. Reactor Core conversion Analysis

Training Programmes

1. Undergraduate teaching  and project supervision of Reactor Physics and Nuclear Physics
2. Post-graduate teaching and project supervision of Reactor Physics and Nuclear Physics
3. Post graduate diploma in Nuclear Reactor Science and Technology
4. Training of all cadres of Research Reactor operators
