NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS (NAA) WITH 14-MeV NEUTRON GENERATOR AND Am-Be NEUTRON SOURCE

14-MeV Neutron Generator-ZARABUNG-1 is one of the first major facilities at the Centre for Energy Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Its relevance and importance stem from the need to develop nuclear science and technology through neutron activation analysis (NAA). This facility has immense uses in geological science, agriculture and petroleum industry. It has served as an important complement of our other analytical facilities especially in the determination of N and P (the essential components of inorganic fertilizer), Al and Si (important elements in geological sciences, iron and steel industry).

The 141Am-Be isotopic neutron source is another useful source of activating particles that is available in the Section. It is adequate for a range of analyses where extreme sensitivity is not of prime importance, and offers of ease of operation. Thus, the facility has been established for the determination of some elements like Cu, Mn, etc, in their ores.

SCHEDULE OF FEES

The schedule is for the analysis of Si, Al, Mn, Cu, N, P and O in geological and biological matrices (with the NG and the Am-Be source) and the fees are subject to annual reviews.

FACILITY COST OF ANALYSIS PER SAMPLE
1-50 samples 51-100 samples >100 samples
